2. Most tasks are applied “off-line,” or after stimulus processing has taken place (e.g., questions after reading a story; etc.). These also require varying degrees of stimulus awareness and association.
Contrast: On-line techniques are implemented close in time to the cognitive operations under study (see Tompkins & Baumgaertner, 1998).
